Designer Scrapbook Albums

One of my favorite things from CHA was a unique line of designer scrapbook albums. If you know me, you know I love hand-made, artisian type products -- I love the fact that someone has taken the time to create beautiful artwork. I was attracted to a line of scrapbooking albums from India, covered in beads and beautiful silks. They were absolutely beautiful.

Although their website is not in great shape at this point, and there are very few pictures of their products available, Mahath Creations was one of my favorites from CHA 2006.

If you love the look but can't find the exact album you want, you can create your own designer scrapbook albums. If you look at swap meets, flea markets, or in ethnic shops, you are likely to find India fabrics (or the type of fabrics you love.) Cover an existing album and make it your own. I love the idea of covering my travel scrapbooks with unique fabrics made in the countries where I've travelled. It makes them more my own, rather than just a regular scrapbook album.

First Real Virus for MAC users

The first real virus for MAC users has been identified. The virus (really identified as a worm) targets Apple's Mac OS X operating system. Reports indicate the virus was spotted in a file which is supposed to be screenshots of the Leopard Mac OS X 10.5 and displays the file as a .jpg file -- however the file titled "latestpics.tgz" is really an executable file and contains the virus.

If you do digital scrapbooking using a Mac -- now is probably the time to get some anti-virus software installed on your system, or make sure you have your files backed up.

Free Digital Scrapbooking

One of my favorite scrapbooking sites is called Scrap Girls. You can get free digital scrapbooking supplies each week when you sign up for their newsletter. I like the fact that their digital scrapbook kits are inexpensive and they have some great designs. A great resource if you are just starting out in digital scrapbooking or if you have a tons of experience. Each week their freebies are elements from their scrapbook kits, such as a free font, a free tag, or texture, or embellishments. Usually there are 4 or 5 free digital scrapbook elements each week. Check out their site.

Favorite New Things in Scrapbooking

Well, I'm back from CHA (have been for a week or more), and have been in the middle of a move and too many projects to write about my favorite new things in scrapbooking. But I do have my list and will blog about them in the next few days. I found some really fun scrapbooking paper, a few great new scrapbook tools, a few new creative craft objects to include in scrapbooking and a ton of other products. Most of the displays were the same type of scrapbook products, just a little variation or different color schemes, but I did find a few standouts and a few digital scrapbook products I'm hoping to review.

Craft Industry Trends

The craft industry indicates an increase in craft trends over the past decade. After attending the CHA Craft and Hobby Association tradeshow this past week, it's obvious the trends are accurate. The top 5 crafts based on participation rates are reported by the Deseret News as:

  • Cross-stitch / embroidery
  • Crocheting
  • Scrapbooking / memory crafts
  • Home decor / painting / accessorizing
  • Apparel / fashion sewing

Here is a good article about craft industry trends --
